What is a Google Core Update?

Google remains uncontested in the search engine landscape by regularly improving its ranking algorithm. The big changes are called “Core Updates”.

Core updates are significant changes Google makes to its ranking algorithm that affect a large number of indexed web pages. They occur about once every two or three months on average and are designed to improve the quality and relevance of Google’s search results by shuffling the search rankings of indexed web pages.

Each core update tweaks the formula by which Google ranks web pages that rank high for their target keywords. Conversely, core updates may also cause web pages that previously ranked low for their target keywords to rank high following rollout.

In the near future, it is best to remain vigilant of any changes in search console but do not react. Search results may fluctuate for several weeks before settling down. It is wise to allow the search results to settle before trying to make sense of them.
